Fate

English 115 8 February 2012 Literary Analysis: necessity In Greek times the idea of comp atomic number 53nt, destiny or foretelling had a huge impact on their culture. Sophocles seems to underscore the agent of the Gods and their prophecies. In Oedipus the King, the main theme is caboodle, it all has to do with the prophecies that are presended in Sophocles plays. The play I am discussing starts bug out with Creons return from the oracle at Delphi, where he has knowing that the aversion will be lifted if Thebes banishes the man who killed Laius. Oedipus consequently demands to project this man as quickly as practicable and wont rest until they find him and save Thebes. When he tells Jocasta somewhat the forecasting to save the city and about the unitary he heard when he was living in Corinth she explains the one her graduation husband, Laius, got years ago. It seems that no matter what Oedipus does his ordain or prophecy keeps coming back. When he was a baby and sent away(p) to be killed, the Shepherd took pity and gave him to another to care for, he was saved and raised a prince. Years later Oedipus hears that his dowery is to kill his father and sleep with his mother. He runs away claustrophobic it will come true and along the way he runs into Laius and kills him which is a big coincidence. Oedipus ends up back in Thebes and by fate solved the riddle and becomes king, marring his mother. Throughout the play he keeps nerve-racking to run from his destiny but it always catches up with him. The more Oedipus tries to run from his destiny, the worse the turnout is in the end. Its almost like he is being punished for severe to escape his fate. Sophocles seems to portray that humans are powerless from fate and the destiny the Gods have chosen for them.If you want to get a full essay, order it on our website: OrderCustomPaper.com
